O Gwmpas Cymru is a bilingual program which presents maps
and scenes of Wales that pupils can interrogate. It is a learning resource
designed for pupils aged 9 and over in Key Stage 2. It provides a simple
geographical information system (GIS) which offers pupils the opportunity
to explore the geographical aspects of different parts of Wales. By looking
at typical maps and scenes representing Wales they can find answers to
questions about natural and man-made features of the landscape, using the
mouse to point and click to obtain information.
Its aim is to develop pupils' understanding of geography in
a local context so that they can:
-
Recognise the main features in their environment
-
Appreciate how the main features came to be there
-
Understand how the environment influences what we do and
how our activities affect the environment.
-
Consider differing opinions on the items described
